Blauhilde Climbing Beans

I love growing something a bit unusual, and I love a variety of colours, so these purple climbing beans are perfect.

They grow like crazy things too.  We had so many beans last summer (2014) we’re still eating them now.  The good thing is that these still taste good even after being in the freezer.

I got my seeds from Thomspon and Morgan and just popped them in pots with some compost until they were big enough to plant out at the allotment.  They don’t need any strings as they just wrap themselves around anything within reach – last year I get them around a cane tee-pee, this year I’m doing something similar but with the farm inverted so that the top sticks out – hopefully this will mean the beans hang outward and I don’t have to search around in the the foliage quite so much.
